Today we had a trip on the Kasilof River with Mike Mccrudden from Anchorage and Jay Crews from Kentucky. We had a mission to land a fresh 2nd run king. The fishing was slow as the fish have been running alittle late this year. Toward the afternoon Jay's rod buried with a large chrome fish rolling on the surface. Once the hook was set the fish took him on a ride. She ran up and down the hole with us in hot persuit, 5 mintutes later I worked the boat into the shallows to net his large hen. It was Jay's largest fresh water fish landed to date and I am glad he got it. He wouldn't let me fillet it for him because he wanted to show it to his kids. I am sure the kids loved it seeing a fish larger then them selfs. We offer King trips from end of May through July with our drift boat and power boats. Give us a call to try your luck.

My wife and I went out with Brett Gesh, Tim Lantz and a couple of our customers with Dustin Russell owner of Russells Fishing Co. We landed lots of Halibut ranging from 10-40 pounds. The weather was great, Dustin and his crew worked hard to keep us in fish with the changing tide. If you want to go out with Dustin look him up and ask to try out his G.LOOMIS Musky jigging rods during slack tide. Give it a try and you will see why it Brett and I favorite way to fish in Alaska's Salt.

I got a call from some past clients, Dale and Beth Nash, wanting to chase some large bows in the middle river. The problem is that the water has been so clear this year that fishing has been difficult. Also the fish have been found in large numbers only in a few holes, not spread out. This puts lots of boats in a small area making fish very wary. We ran up to the Refuge in the Upper Kenai to try our luck with the Sockeyes and Trout. We limited out in a few hours as Beth put on a clinic while other shore fishermen took notes. Trout fishing was slow, so I will have to work hard this fall for their late season trout trips. Remember the second run will be showing up in middle July and running into the first week of August. I still have a few days for these incredibly strong, hard fighting, and tasty fish. Call to today to book your trip and fill your freezer.

I was not able to travel to the Situk I had to take care of some family business. When I returned I needed some quite time. My dad and I traveled out to a valley lake to chase large bows. We met up with Jake Sneddon and his family. Kick boats were used to troll leeches and nymphs along weed ledges with sinking lines. We landed many fish, most were in the 16-20 inch mark with a few over 20. Jake landed the largest today around 25 inches. We have seen some really big fish on this lake but none landed this time. Lake fishing will be good from now till late June, make sure and book a quick trip out with us. These fish are found in some beautiful and quite lakes, we target lakes with large sterile Rainbows. They have one thing on the mind and that is to feed. Come give it a try, you wont be disappointed.

This morning Keith Graham of World Wide Angler and I drove down to Kenai to finish our guide paperwork. After completion we continued to the Kasilof River for some Steelhead fishing. Both of us rigged up our centerpin float rods and hiked down to the confluence of Crooked Creek and Kasilof. We hooked 7 fish and landed 3 nice fish all over 30 inches, with both spring and hold over fish in the river blowing up our rigs with an intense battle. It was a great and exciting afternoon on the water with line screaming steelies, on light tackle.

Today I went down to the Upper Kenai with my good friends, Keith Graham, Jared Crawford, and Jake Sneddon. Fishing was pretty good for this time of the year on this section of the Kenai. We landed 9 of 11, all on flesh flies under a float. It was a beautiful day with snow covered mountains, eagle waiting in the tree tops for their next meal, and hungry trout. If you are up here next spring for business and are looking for a break from work give us a call. We have comfortable boats with heaters, hot lunches, and all the gear needed for a killer fishing day.

Picked another windy day to hit the river with the spey rods, made casting difficult and tricky. It was more of a casting session then a fishing day. Which was a fine with us, more time practicing new cast and honing old ones. This is the hardest style of fishing I have ever done. It feels great when you bomb a long cast across the river or get that perfect swing with a tug near the end. Landing any fish on a spey rod is a blast. Come on out with us and give it a try this spring, it will make you a more complete fly fisherman.
